AI-Driven Cost Savings is sold into a fixed quantity of existing work, so the compute it consumes is bounded by the work there is to remove. Expertise-Driven AI Partnerships carry no such bound. The constraint is physical delivery — powered, cooled, purpose-built infrastructure close enough to where Latency Inference Demand (LID) is actually needed. Sophisticated LID exists to close that gap through a distributed network of large-scale, self-powered, closed-loop-cooled LID Sockets, each within eighty miles of the population it serves.

The gating function is not capital and it is not technology. It is real estate development execution — site selection, entitlement, BTM power, closed-loop cooling, and capital structure, executed with precision across thirty sites simultaneously. That is the discipline this platform was built around.

LID is inference compute demand whose proximity to end users is constrained by the speed of light. Training has no fixed address. The inference that answers a person, a vehicle, a hospital or a handset has one, and it is set by physics rather than by anything a developer negotiates.

A 2.5 millisecond round trip, carried through fiber at about two-thirds the speed of light and derated two-fold for route circuity and equipment, puts the outer boundary of a LID Socket at 79.3 miles, straight-line. Microsoft’s published availability-zone figures imply the same constant, within two percent.

Thirty was not chosen. At eighty miles a ring first encloses a whole metropolitan area. Below it the count climbs steeply; above it the added area is mostly empty land. Holding coverage at seventy percent of the population, a fifty-mile radius takes 58 rings and a hundred-mile radius still takes 24.

Method: 84,414 census tracts at their population-weighted centroids (Census Bureau, 2020 Centers of Population, rescaled to July 1, 2025), GDP allocated from BEA county data, rings placed greedily on great-circle distance. The 2.5 ms budget is the LID Socket service standard, not a published industry threshold.

The Socket

The rings holding the most demand sit in the grid regions least able to connect them on any timeline a capital partner will underwrite. Behind-the-meter power and closed-loop cooling are therefore not a cost strategy. They are what lets a LID Socket be placed inside the rings that matter, and, independent of any interconnection queue, delivered on a date that can be committed to rather than forecast.

Closed-loop cooling takes on-site water to a one-time fill. Paired with on-site generation that is itself dry — reciprocating engines, fuel cells or dry-cooled combined cycle — a 25 MW Socket draws roughly 0.5 to 1 million gallons a year in total, against roughly 190 million for the conventional design: water on the scale of a small office building. Removing grid dependence and public water draw also removes the two objections that dominate local approval, which shortens the time to a delivered Socket.

The generation a Socket is built from sits at the fast end of a sold-out market. Large-frame turbines queue five to seven years. The small units that made up seventy percent of 2025 gas turbine orders deliver in roughly 18 to 36 months.
